Heart for Heroes: A Day on the Water with Rudee Tours and the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads

This past Friday, I had the absolute honor of joining the Heart for Heroes Fishing Trip, a special outing organized by the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads. Their Presenting Sponsor Serco being a great help. All while being hosted at Rudee Tours. It was a day filled with unforgettable moments, belly laughs, and true appreciation for our local heroes.

First, I have to give a huge thank you to the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads . They truly went above and beyond to create such a beautiful and thoughtful experience for our veterans. From the moment we stepped onto the boat, you could feel the love and care they poured into this trip.

We started out the morning in the middle of a rainstorm—yes, a full-on downpour! But our incredible captain didn’t miss a beat. He navigated us out of the storm and into clearer skies, turning what could’ve been a soggy morning into a beautiful adventure on the water.

As we cast our lines and drifted between fishing spots, there was no shortage of laughter, jokes, and storytelling. The camaraderie was infectious. Fish were caught, smiles were shared, and the joy was so real. Among our most exciting catches? A stingray and a shark! Don’t worry—they were safely and gently released back into the ocean where they belong. 🦈✨

The team at Rudee Tours was absolutely amazing. They found us the perfect spots to fish, ensuring everyone had a chance to cast out and reel in a catch or two. Their knowledge of the water and dedication to making the day special didn’t go unnoticed—we were all so grateful.

As the trip came to an end, I felt full—full of gratitude, of laughter, of new memories with people who truly deserve moments like this. To everyone involved, thank you. From the YMCA team to the Rudee’s crew, to each and every veteran who came along: thank you for the experience, the memories, and the reminder of what really matters.

I already can’t wait to join next year’s trip. Until then, my heart is full and my appreciation runs deep.
