One of the most beautiful parts of being a Virginia engagement photographer is getting to witness love stories unfold in the most unexpected ways. This past weekend, I had the honor of capturing a truly unforgettable moment during what began as a simple couple’s session at the backyard wildflower patch in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Just last week, I heard from Daylah, who reached out to book a couple’s session with me among the wildflowers. I had previously photographed her and her boyfriend, Logan, during a cozy Christmas session in the Suffolk studio, so having them return for another shoot felt like such a gift. What she didn’t know, however, was that Logan had something very special planned.
Only moments after she booked, Logan reached out to me privately. He had been planning to propose and thought this session would be the perfect time to pop the question. Together, we came up with a plan that would allow for a natural, relaxed couple’s session—leading up to the sweetest surprise.
As many know, the Chesapeake wildflower patch can be quite busy on the weekends. To make sure this moment felt intimate, we slipped away to a quieter part of the flowers where Logan could calm his nerves, and the two of them could have a private space. When the time came, Logan dropped to one knee, and the look on Daylah’s face was priceless. She had no idea it was coming! The joy, the tears, and the “yes!” were all so genuine—it was truly an honor to capture.
After the proposal, we spent a few extra minutes photographing the newly engaged couple in the wildflowers, giving them the perfect backdrop for this new chapter in their love story. The bright blooms paired with their pure happiness created timeless engagement photos they’ll cherish forever.
