This past weekend, I had the absolute honor of capturing Alicia and Nick’s beautiful wedding day at The Culpepper Barn in Pungo, Virginia Beach—a day that started with golden sunshine, warm breezes, and the sweetest anticipation. By the time their ceremony approached, soft rain and a cool shift in the air settled over their wedding ceremony and honestly, it made their day even more magical.
If you’ve ever heard the old sailor’s saying, “When a knot gets wet, it becomes the hardest to untie,” you already know why rain on a wedding day is considered such a blessing. I’ve always loved this symbolism—because the moment those raindrops fall, I know I’m witnessing a marriage built to last. And for Alicia and Nick, that sentiment couldn’t have been more true.
As the skies misted and the evening cooled, these two embraced every moment with grace, joy, and the deepest love for one another. Not once did the weather dim their glow. Instead, it became part of their story—adding a romantic softness to their portraits, creating the perfect atmosphere for cozy family moments, and reminding everyone present that love thrives no matter the forecast.
The Culpepper Barn wedding venue provided the most charming backdrop—rustic wood beams, warm twinkling lights, and the peaceful countryside wrapped around their celebration. Once the music started, not even the rain could keep guests from gathering on the dance floor. Laughter echoed, the floor stayed full, and the energy stayed high well into the night.
Alicia and Nick’s wedding is one I’ll treasure for years to come. Their day was a shining reminder that beauty isn’t found in perfect weather—it’s found in the way a couple chooses each other, wholeheartedly, through sunshine and storm.
To all future brides: if rain decides to visit your wedding day, welcome it with an open heart. Let it be a sign of strength, blessing, and an unbreakable bond. Just like Alicia and Nick, your love story will shine right through it.
A perfect day. A perfect love. A perfect knot—forever tied.
