Yesterday’s session at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach will forever hold a special place in my heart. As the day approached, we found ourselves in conversation, watching the weather closely. With a nor’easter moving in, there was that big question hanging in the air: Should we move forward or reschedule?

But this brave and beautiful family decided to embrace the storm—and what an incredible choice that turned out to be.

From the moment they stepped out onto the sand, the wind remained calm, the little waves moved with purpose, and the clouds painted a moody masterpiece across the sky. It was as if the storm itself had arrived just for them—to celebrate this chapter of their story and to wrap them in a moment of strength, love, and anticipation.

I often say that magic doesn’t just happen in golden light. Sometimes, it’s in the wind, the movement, the laughter, and the way a family chooses to show up with open hearts—no matter the forecast. This session was the perfect reminder of that truth.

Their little one ran through the sand and explored everything around her. Mom and Dad held one another close, soaking in these last few moments before welcoming their newest blessing. Every image tells a story of love, courage, and connection—a family standing strong and savoring every second of the journey.

And while I wish I could say we painted that sky ourselves, it truly felt like nature wanted to play her part in creating something unforgettable. The deep grays, rich blues and the fire in the sky made the perfect backdrop for a bold, emotional, and storytelling maternity session.
