A Winter Family Session at The Sleeping Wildflowers | Chesapeake, Virginia Family Photographer

There is something truly special about families who arrive to a session with open hearts, open minds, and a whole lot of energy — not knowing exactly what to expect, but ready to simply be together. Yesterday’s family session at The Sleeping Wildflowers in Chesapeake, Virginia was exactly that kind of experience, and it’s one I will cherish for a long time.

From the very beginning, this family showed up fully themselves — playful, connected, and full of love. And that is where the magic lives.

Real Moments Over Perfect Poses

One of the things I value most during family sessions is authenticity. I never want families to look back at their images and feel like they don’t recognize themselves. Your children’s personalities, the way you laugh together, the comfort of a cuddle — those moments matter far more than stiff poses or forced smiles.

This family trusted the process, and because of that, we were able to create images that feel real. The kind of photos where laughter bubbles up unexpectedly, little hands reach for comfort, and love shows itself in the quiet in-between moments. When families arrive without expectations, it gives me the freedom to gently guide them while allowing their true personalities to shine through every photograph.

Finding Beauty in Every Corner of The Sleeping Wildflowers

Many people see The Sleeping Wildflowers and assume it isn’t the “ideal” location for family photos — especially in the winter. But what I see is warmth, texture, and endless beauty tucked into every corner of this field.

As the golden light filtered through the sleeping wildflowers, it wrapped this family in the most beautiful glow. The neutral tones of the field allowed their connection to take center stage, highlighting every smile, every embrace, and every bit of love they share. Laughter echoed softly through the field, proving that beauty isn’t always loud or obvious — sometimes it’s found in the quiet, golden moments.

Every Family Is Welcome Here

This session was a beautiful reminder that every family belongs here.

No matter the size of your family.
No matter the ages of your children.
No matter how wild, shy, playful, or calm your little ones may be.

The Sleeping Wildflowers is a space where families can slow down, connect, and simply be themselves. Winter sessions here offer a peaceful, intimate atmosphere that allows genuine moments to unfold naturally — and those moments are what turn into timeless memories.

A Space to Be Yourself

Family sessions aren’t about perfection. They’re about connection, love, and documenting your story exactly as it is in this season of life. When families trust me with that — when they show up ready to love on one another — the result is something truly special.

This session was a perfect example of how powerful it can be to let go of expectations and embrace what unfolds. There is so much beauty in real laughter, warm cuddles, and love shared freely among the sleeping wildflowers.

If you’ve ever wondered whether this location — or a winter family session — is right for your family, let this be your sign. Every family is welcome here, and every story deserves to be told.

Finding Beauty in the Sleeping Wildflowers | Maternity Couples Session | Chesapeake, Virginia Maternity Photographer

This past weekend, I had the absolute joy of photographing the sweetest expecting couple at The Sleeping Wildflowers in Chesapeake, Virginia. This location that is often overlooked this time of year.

Many people arrive here in winter and immediately say no. They notice how the wildflowers have died off, how the landscape has turned shades of brown and soft gold, and how everything feels quiet and still. But through a photographer’s eye, there is so much beauty within these sleeping wildflowers.

And yes—I say sleeping with intention.

If you look closely, the flowers still hold their seeds, patiently waiting. When spring arrives, those seeds will fall, new life will grow, and the field will once again burst into vibrant color and movement. It’s a gentle reminder that even in seasons of stillness, something beautiful is happening beneath the surface.

When I placed a model call for a maternity couple, I knew instantly that this location was the perfect fit.

Just like these two sweet souls are waiting for their little one to enter the world, the sleeping wildflowers are waiting for their moment to wake up again—ready to bloom, grow, and begin a brand-new chapter. The parallel felt effortless, and the result was a maternity session that felt deeply meaningful, emotional, and timeless.

A Message for All My Moms-to-Be

I wanted to share this session especially for all of my expecting mamas who feel like they have to wait.

So many moms believe maternity photos must be taken when the weather is perfect, when everything is green, or when they find the “ideal” location. But just like this beautiful couple, any location—when chosen with intention—can create stunning, heartfelt maternity images.

Winter maternity sessions hold a quiet magic of their own. They allow us to focus on connection, emotion, and the miracle of new life—without distraction.

If you are expecting this winter, I would absolutely love to work with you. Whether we find the perfect winter location together or you choose The Sleeping Wildflowers in Chesapeake, Virginia, I promise to create images that celebrate your journey and beautifully showcase your baby bump.

If you’re a mama-to-be and considering a maternity session, don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s find a location that tells your story—no matter the season.

A Winter Family Session That Proved Perfect Moments Don’t Wait! | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

This past weekend’s family session was nothing short of magical — not because the weather was perfect, but because the family was.

Cold temperatures, strong coastal winds, passing rain, and even snow flurries toward the end of their session didn’t stop this incredible family from showing up fully. Wrapped in layers, snuggled close, and laughing through it all, they reminded me of something so important: beautiful family photos don’t require perfect conditions.

This family ❤️ right here is proof that you don’t need to be perfectly put together. The sun doesn’t have to be shining. You don’t need to wait for a warm day or an “ideal” location. What truly matters is connection — and they brought so much of it.

Between the dramatic winter sky, the sound of crashing waves, tiny hands tucked into pockets, and siblings leaning into one another for warmth, this session felt intimate, emotional, and real. The laughter they shared brought warmth to every image, creating photographs that feel alive — the kind you can feel when you look back on them years from now.

Winter sessions have a way of slowing things down. They invite closeness. They create space for snuggles, movement, and genuine emotion. And while summer sessions are filled with golden light and bare feet, winter photos tell a different — yet equally beautiful — story.

They capture resilience. Togetherness. The joy of simply being present, even when conditions aren’t perfect.

If you’ve been waiting for the “right time” to book family photos, let this be your sign. Life doesn’t pause for perfect weather, and neither should your memories. Winter moments deserve to be cherished just as much as summer ones — because you never know when the next perfect moment will come.

And sometimes, it’s found in the cold, the wind, the laughter… and a family willing to show up anyway.

✨ Ready to create something meaningful this winter? Let’s capture your story — exactly as it is, right now.

Why Transparency With Your Photographer Matters More Than Ever | Online Safety & Sharing | Virginia Beach Family Photographer

In today’s world, social media is both a beautiful connector and a quiet divider. It gives us the ability to be close to loved ones who live far away and allows us to share the big and small moments of our lives with people we care about. But at the same time, social media can carry a heavy weight—especially for parents and families who are trying to protect their little ones.

Over this past year, I’ve had the honor of photographing so many incredible families, children, businesses, and returning clients. And throughout this year, one thing has stood out to me more than anything else: the importance of transparency between families and their photographer.

The Heart Behind “Please Don’t Share Our Photos”

As a mom, I deeply understand the desire to keep your children safe and your family life private. Truly, I do. I have family members who do the exact same thing—no photos of their kids online, ever. And I respect that with my whole heart.

But as a business owner, I’ll be honest: when a magical session is complete, the light was perfect, everyone looked incredible, and I’m so excited about the images… hearing the words “please don’t share any of these online” hurts—just a little.

Not because I don’t respect the request.
Not because I don’t understand.
Not because your choice is wrong.

It hurts because your photos are also how my small business grows. They’re how other families find me. They’re how my work reaches the people who feel connected to my vibrant, bold, and authentic style.

But every single time a family asks me not to share their images, I honor that request—completely.
And that’s why many families return to me year after year: because they know their privacy is safe with me.

Where Transparency Matters Most

This is why full transparency is so important at the time of booking.

Please don’t ever feel afraid to tell your photographer upfront:
“We prefer our photos not be shared online.”

This isn’t something we judge you for.
This isn’t something we take personally.
This isn’t something that makes us think less of your family.

What it does is allow us to prepare.

Because here’s something most families don’t realize:

If we know ahead of time that your images must remain private, we can tailor your session to still capture stunning images that protect your little ones’ identities.

Silhouettes.
Over-the-shoulder moments.
Hands intertwined.
Candid laughter.
Movement.
Details.
Connection.

Some of the most breathtaking images never show a face at all.

But when we find out after the session—after every beautiful face-forward, smiling-at-the-camera photo is taken—it can feel like a punch to the stomach. Not because we don’t understand, but because we know those images will never be shared, even though we’re so incredibly proud of them.

And often, without knowing your preferences ahead of time, we miss the chance to create additional images designed specifically for social media use that still protect your privacy.

Reading the Contract Matters, Too

Many families sign contracts quickly (we all do it—I’ve done it myself!). But in that contract is a model release. When you sign it, you’re allowing certain images to be shared for promotional purposes.

If you don’t want your images shared, it’s absolutely okay—but it’s important to communicate this before signing or during the booking process so we can make the proper adjustments.

It protects you.
It protects your boundaries.
It protects your photographer’s workflow.

Candid Moments Are Where the Magic Happens

One thing I always tell my families—especially those with little ones—is this:

Don’t stress about perfection.

Don’t stress if a baby isn’t looking.
Don’t stress if a toddler is wiggly.
Don’t stress if moments feel chaotic.
That chaos?
That realness?
That connection?

That’s where the magic lives.

Some of the most meaningful images come from the in-between moments—the moments where love is loudest.

And those moments can be shared online without ever revealing a child’s face.

Why I’m Writing This

This blog isn’t meant to call anyone out.
It isn’t meant to shame.
It isn’t meant to guilt.

It’s written with love, compassion, and total understanding—from one mom to another.

It’s written to encourage open communication.
It’s written to help protect your family’s wishes.
It’s written to help photographers prepare.
It’s written to show that:

Yes—you can keep your little ones safe AND have beautiful images captured.
Yes—you can have stunning family photos without showing faces online.
Yes—we can work together to honor both your privacy and my business needs.

Because at the end of the day, transparency is the foundation of trust.
And trust is the heart of every beautiful session.

To All My Families This Year

Thank you.
Thank you for trusting me.
Thank you for letting me into your family moments.
Thank you for your kindness, your honesty, your vulnerability, your joy.

And thank you to the families who allow me to share their images. Your openness helps other families discover my work and helps my small business continue to grow.

But to the families who choose privacy—you are equally valued.
Your boundaries matter.
Your children’s safety matters.
Your trust matters most.

A Special Thank You

I want to extend the warmest thank you to this amazing mama for answering my model call and trusting me with her beautiful family. Your openness, understanding, and willingness to embrace the vision behind this session means more than you know.

Thank you for showing up with your whole heart, for trusting the process, and for allowing me to capture these moments with your three incredible little ones. The transparency we shared as client and photographer is exactly what inspired this blog, and I am forever grateful for you. 💛

Alicia & Nick’s Rain-Kissed Wedding at The Culpepper Barn | Pungo, Virginia Beach | Virginia Wedding Photographer

This past weekend, I had the absolute honor of capturing Alicia and Nick’s beautiful wedding day at The Culpepper Barn in Pungo, Virginia Beach—a day that started with golden sunshine, warm breezes, and the sweetest anticipation. By the time their ceremony approached, soft rain and a cool shift in the air settled over their wedding ceremony and honestly, it made their day even more magical.

If you’ve ever heard the old sailor’s saying, “When a knot gets wet, it becomes the hardest to untie,” you already know why rain on a wedding day is considered such a blessing. I’ve always loved this symbolism—because the moment those raindrops fall, I know I’m witnessing a marriage built to last. And for Alicia and Nick, that sentiment couldn’t have been more true.

As the skies misted and the evening cooled, these two embraced every moment with grace, joy, and the deepest love for one another. Not once did the weather dim their glow. Instead, it became part of their story—adding a romantic softness to their portraits, creating the perfect atmosphere for cozy family moments, and reminding everyone present that love thrives no matter the forecast.

The Culpepper Barn wedding venue provided the most charming backdrop—rustic wood beams, warm twinkling lights, and the peaceful countryside wrapped around their celebration. Once the music started, not even the rain could keep guests from gathering on the dance floor. Laughter echoed, the floor stayed full, and the energy stayed high well into the night.

Alicia and Nick’s wedding is one I’ll treasure for years to come. Their day was a shining reminder that beauty isn’t found in perfect weather—it’s found in the way a couple chooses each other, wholeheartedly, through sunshine and storm.

To all future brides: if rain decides to visit your wedding day, welcome it with an open heart. Let it be a sign of strength, blessing, and an unbreakable bond. Just like Alicia and Nick, your love story will shine right through it.

A perfect day. A perfect love. A perfect knot—forever tied.

Jamie & Michael’s Dreamy Fall Wedding | Deep Creek Landing Marina | Virginia Wedding Photographer

Last week, I had the absolute honor of capturing Jamie and Michael’s intimate wedding at the stunning Deep Creek Landing Marina in Newport News, Virginia. This was my very first time photographing a wedding at this beautiful waterfront venue, and it truly exceeded every expectation. From the warm fall colors to the peaceful marina views, everything about this location was perfect for the romantic and intimate celebration Jamie and Michael envisioned.

As a Virginia wedding photographer, I’m always inspired by spaces that feel magical the moment you arrive—and Deep Creek Landing Marina did just that. The golden fall sky cast a soft glow over the water, the leaves created the perfect seasonal backdrop, and the details these two chose were thoughtful, elegant, and full of meaning.

A Ceremony Blessed From Above

One of the most unforgettable moments of the day happened just as the ceremony began. As Jamie and Michael stood together, ready to say their vows, two American bald eagles soared above us as if blessing the beginning of their new life together. It was a breathtaking and symbolic moment that felt destined: unity, protection, strength, and love, all wrapped into one powerful sign. I will never forget that feeling or the emotion it brought to everyone present.

An Evening Full of Joy, Color & Connection

Jamie and Michael filled the evening with laughter, heartfelt moments, and so much love. The fall colors framed every portrait beautifully, giving their gallery a naturally warm and dreamy glow. From the sweet stolen glances during their portraits to the emotional moments shared with family and friends, every part of their wedding day felt peaceful, intimate, and genuine.

Their celebration reminded me exactly why I adore photographing weddings—especially smaller, heartfelt gatherings where love truly takes center stage.

A Sweet At-Home Elopement in Chesapeake, Virginia | Savannah & Joel | Virginia Wedding Photographer

Last week, I had the absolute honor of documenting Savannah and Joel’s intimate at-home elopement—a beautiful reminder that love doesn’t need extravagance to be unforgettable. As a Virginia Beach wedding photographer, being there for my couples through every twist, turn, and joyful moment is one of the things I cherish most about this work.

When Savannah and Joel reached out back in September to let me know they were rescheduling their wedding, my heart was with them. Plans change, life happens, and sometimes the big celebration we imagined shifts into something simpler, sweeter, and even more meaningful. So when they contacted me again—this time filled with excitement about exchanging vows inside their home, surrounded by their closest family—I knew instantly that this was exactly where I was meant to be.

Their Friday morning elopement was the perfect example of how small weddings can be just as magical as grand ones. Savannah added thoughtful, delicate details throughout their space, while Joel helped create an atmosphere that was warm, relaxed, and full of joy. From the soft morning light drifting through their living room, to the homemade foods, treats, and little personal touches, every moment felt genuine and centered on what truly matters—their love and the promise they made to one another.

I often tell my brides that you don’t need a huge venue, dozens of vendors, or an elaborate timeline to have a meaningful wedding day. Elopements and small ceremonies deserve to be documented with the same care, artistry, and storytelling as any large celebration. Savannah and Joel’s day was a beautiful reminder of that. Their focus wasn’t on perfection—it was on presence. And that made every photograph even more special.

If you’re a bride planning a wedding on a budget, or considering an intimate elopement here in Virginia Beach, Hampton Roads, or beyond, take this as your sign:
Your love story is more than enough. Whether you choose a beachfront celebration, a courthouse ceremony, or a sweet vow exchange in your living room like Savannah and Joel, your day deserves to be captured with intention and heart.

Being part of their elopement was a gift, and I’m so grateful Savannah and Joel trusted me with such a tender moment in their story. Here are just a few of their photos from their special day.

The Gala 417 set the tone for an unforgettable wedding day. Its elegant space, incredible staff, and stunning waterfront views made it the perfect backdrop for Hazel and Troy’s “I do.” The attention to detail throughout the venue, from the breathtaking floral designs to the romantic lighting, created an atmosphere that was both luxurious and full of warmth.

The fall sky over Virginia Beach put on a show — soft golden light reflecting over the water made the perfect setting for romantic, timeless photos. These quiet moments together gave them a chance to pause, breathe, and soak in the magic of being newly married before heading back to the celebration.

A Beautiful Catholic Marriage Convalidation at St. Luke’s Catholic Church | Virginia Beach Wedding Photographer

Yesterday, I had the honor of capturing Dariana and Jomar’s Catholic Marriage Convalidation at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. As a nor’easter was beginning to make its way toward the coast, we all watched the skies and prayed for calm weather — and God truly delivered. The winds remained soft, the rain stayed away, and the clouds created the most beautiful, diffused light that every photographer dreams of.

That perfect, soft light allowed us to take our time capturing the sweetest bride and groom portraits, heartfelt family photos, and the meaningful little wedding details that tell the story of a day filled with love, grace, and devotion.

Inside St. Luke’s, the church was filled with close family and friends who gathered to witness and celebrate this sacred moment in Dariana and Jomar’s marriage journey. The ceremony was intimate yet powerful — a reminder that no matter how small or simple a celebration may seem, every milestone in marriage deserves to be remembered and cherished.

Why a Catholic Convalidation Is So Meaningful

A Catholic Marriage Convalidation is a beautiful sacrament in which a couple has their marriage blessed and recognized by the Catholic Church. It’s often referred to as a “renewal of vows,” but it carries such deep spiritual meaning — a reaffirmation of faith, love, and commitment in the presence of God.

As a Virginia Beach wedding photographer, I believe these moments are just as important to document as those big wedding days. Whether it’s a grand celebration or a small convalidation surrounded by loved ones, every couple’s story holds profound beauty and significance. These photographs become timeless reminders of faith, family, and the journey of love that continues to grow.

A Day Filled with Grace and Joy

Dariana and Jomar’s day reflected everything beautiful about marriage — unity, joy, and unwavering love. Watching them smile and hold hands as they walked toward the altar was such a touching reminder of why I love being a wedding photographer in Hampton Roads. Every story is unique, every couple has a purpose, and every “yes” to love deserves to be captured with care and heart.

I’m so grateful to have been a part of documenting this next chapter in their lives — a day filled with peace, faith, and the sweet reminder that love, when rooted in God, can weather any storm.

Embracing the Storm — A Family Lifestyle Maternity Session at First Landing State Park | Virginia Beach Photographer

Yesterday’s session at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach will forever hold a special place in my heart. As the day approached, we found ourselves in conversation, watching the weather closely. With a nor’easter moving in, there was that big question hanging in the air: Should we move forward or reschedule?

But this brave and beautiful family decided to embrace the storm—and what an incredible choice that turned out to be.

From the moment they stepped out onto the sand, the wind remained calm, the little waves moved with purpose, and the clouds painted a moody masterpiece across the sky. It was as if the storm itself had arrived just for them—to celebrate this chapter of their story and to wrap them in a moment of strength, love, and anticipation.

I often say that magic doesn’t just happen in golden light. Sometimes, it’s in the wind, the movement, the laughter, and the way a family chooses to show up with open hearts—no matter the forecast. This session was the perfect reminder of that truth.

Their little one ran through the sand and explored everything around her. Mom and Dad held one another close, soaking in these last few moments before welcoming their newest blessing. Every image tells a story of love, courage, and connection—a family standing strong and savoring every second of the journey.

And while I wish I could say we painted that sky ourselves, it truly felt like nature wanted to play her part in creating something unforgettable. The deep grays, rich blues and the fire in the sky made the perfect backdrop for a bold, emotional, and storytelling maternity session.

As a Virginia Beach maternity and family photographer, moments like these fill me with so much gratitude. It’s an honor to witness families as they grow, love, and celebrate the beauty in every season—storms and all.

If you’re an expecting mom dreaming of a maternity session that feels real, emotional, and full of life, I’d love to help you capture your story. Whether it’s a golden sunset or a stormy sky, your love is always the main focus.

A Beautiful Beachside Wedding at Embassy Suites Virginia Beach | Shannon & Johnte | Virginia Beach Wedding Photographer

There are some weddings that simply stay with you — the laughter, the emotion, the joy that fills the air from start to finish. Shannon and Johnte’s wedding day at the Embassy Suites in Virginia Beach was one of those unforgettable celebrations that I’ll always hold close to my heart.

From the very beginning, their day was filled with love, laughter, and the kind of energy that makes you smile from behind the camera. Every little detail came together perfectly — from the elegant décor and thoughtful ceremony setup, to the beachside views that made their vows feel like a scene straight from a fairytale.

The Perfect Virginia Beach Wedding Day

The weather could not have been more perfect! A soft breeze, golden light, and the sound of waves crashing just beyond the ceremony space — it all created the most romantic setting for Shannon and Johnte to say “I do.” The Embassy Suites by Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Resort provided the perfect blend of modern elegance and coastal charm.

Their ceremony took place right on the beach, surrounded by family and friends who radiated pure happiness for them. From the moment Shannon walked down the aisle, you could see the joy on Johnte’s face — one of those beautiful, genuine moments that makes wedding photography so special.

A Celebration Full of Love, Laughter, and Dancing

After their heartfelt vows, it was time to celebrate! And let me tell you — Shannon and Johnte’s family and bridal party knew how to have fun. From start to finish, the dance floor was never empty. Every guest joined in — laughing, dancing, and celebrating the new Mr. and Mrs. in the best way possible.

Throughout the evening, there were so many sweet and silly moments — tight hugs from family, bursts of laughter between friends, and the quiet, romantic glances that Shannon and Johnte shared when they thought no one was looking. It was a night full of joy and connection — everything a wedding day should be.

A Dream Team of Virginia Beach Wedding Vendors

It truly takes a village to bring a wedding day to life, and Shannon and Johnte had an amazing team of vendors who made it all happen. Every element — from the floral arrangements to the reception setup — was perfectly thought out and beautifully executed. Their day was the definition of teamwork, creativity, and love coming together to create something magical.

The soft autumn light paired beautifully with rustic touches—like an old vintage tractor, a charming piano, and even a few friendly Scottish Highland cows that wandered into the background. Every element created a setting that felt warm, nostalgic, and oh-so-perfect for fall.

What made this shoot even more magical was how naturally this couple embraced the country life. They had no problem snuggling in close, sharing sweet laughter, and enjoying every moment together. A Beautiful Maternity Lifestyle Photoshoot at First Landing State Park | Virginia Beach Maternity Photographer

There are few things I love more as a photographer than seeing families return to me year after year. Watching little ones grow, capturing each new milestone, and celebrating the chapters of life as they unfold—it’s truly the heart of why I do what I do. Last week’s maternity lifestyle session at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach was one of those sessions that reminded me just how much joy this work brings.

This sweet family has been in front of my camera before, and it was such a gift to photograph them again—this time celebrating the exciting arrival of a new little one. The children’s laughter filled the air, their personalities shining through in every frame. There’s something so special about capturing that genuine connection between siblings and parents as they anticipate welcoming a new member of the family.

What made this maternity photoshoot even more magical was the setting. First Landing State Park is one of my favorite places for family and maternity photography. With its lush greenery, sandy pathways, and open skies, it offers the perfect backdrop for both playful and intimate moments. That evening, the sky put on its own show—rich, dramatic clouds glowing with soft evening light, wrapping the family in a scene that felt straight out of a storybook.

The combination of laughter, love, and the beauty of Virginia Beach’s natural scenery made this session unforgettable. It was everything I hope for in a lifestyle session: relaxed, joyful, and full of authentic emotion.

A Stormy – Sandbridge Engagement Session | Virginia Beach Photographer

Last week, I had the honor of photographing one of my sweetest couples as they prepare for their wedding this November. Their engagement session at Sandbridge Beach in Virginia Beach could not have been more magical.

What made the evening so special was how nature itself played such a big role. Just the day before, a heavy storm swept through the area, leaving us all wondering what the beach might look like. But when we arrived, Sandbridge had the calmest and most peaceful feel to it. The sky was filled with dramatic clouds, the waves rolled with energy, and surfers even came out to enjoy the post-storm swell. It created the perfect backdrop for their engagement photos—romantic, moody, and full of beauty.

What I loved most about this engagement session was how true this couple stayed to themselves. They are simple, joyful, and kind—the kind of couple that makes you smile just being around them. Their love radiated naturally, and the beauty of Sandbridge only highlighted their connection. It was a reminder of why I love being a Virginia Beach engagement and wedding photographer—to capture authentic love stories in beautiful, natural settings.

I absolutely loved working with these two and am so grateful I had the chance to photograph this special season of their lives. I cannot wait to celebrate their wedding this November and continue telling their love story through photographs.
