This past Friday, I had the incredible honor of joining the Hearts for Heroes Fishing Trip for the second year in a row—a truly special event organized by the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads, proudly supported by presenting sponsor Serco and hosted by the amazing crew at Rudee Tours in Virginia Beach.
If you know me personally, you know how deeply I value our military community and the sacrifices made by our veterans and service members. Being given the opportunity to give back, even in a small way through my photography, is something I never take for granted. Capturing these moments of joy, friendship, and appreciation is one of the most meaningful experiences of my year.
From the moment we stepped aboard, the atmosphere was filled with excitement, laughter, and anticipation. The weather couldn’t have been more beautiful as we set out for a morning on the water. The Rudee Tours crew worked tirelessly to ensure everyone had an incredible experience, guiding us to fantastic fishing spots and helping create memories that will last a lifetime.
Throughout the morning, stories were shared, friendships were strengthened, and plenty of laughs echoed across the water. Watching veterans connect, relax, and simply enjoy the adventure together was a powerful reminder of why events like these are so important.
Of course, there was no shortage of excitement when it came to the fishing itself! We reeled in plenty of fish throughout the day, and even had a surprise stingray make an appearance. Every catch brought smiles, friendly competition, and plenty of celebration before being safely released back into the ocean.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads for once again creating such a meaningful experience for our local heroes. The care, thoughtfulness, and appreciation poured into every detail of this event were evident from beginning to end. Thank you as well to Serco for helping make this day possible and to the outstanding crew at Rudee Tours for their hospitality and expertise.
As I reflect on the day, my heart is full of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to serve those who have served us. Gratitude for the friendships formed, the stories shared, and the memories created. Most importantly, gratitude for every veteran who joined us and for the sacrifices they have made for our country.
It was an absolute privilege to spend another year documenting this incredible event, and I already find myself looking forward to next year’s adventure.
